Analytical Dynamics has recently upgraded the Paperbox Stores website to include a Store Locator component. Based on proven, reliable and accurate Google mapping technology, the component allows potential Paperbox customers quickly and conveniently to search for a store near to any given geographical location. The results are presented in a familiar embedded Google map with the option to use Google's route-finding technology to plot a journey to a location from a user-defined starting point. Paperbox head office estimates that the component has the potential to radically reduce the number of telephone enquiries received, freeing up resources for much more productive tasks. Of particular interest to Wales-based companies is the ability of the Google mapping engine to work with both Welsh and English language place names. In the example illustrated, the user has preferred to search for locations close to Yr Wyddgrug rather than the English equivalent of Mold, and has nevertheless executed a successful search. The store locator component has a huge number of potential uses, from the Paperbox retail example, to tourist portals offering searchable databases of hotels, B&Bs and campsites, to social networking sites.
